Rosh Hashanah nears Torah tells us we will stray But we can return
Moses warns the people that future generations will suffer punishment "because they have forsaken the covenant" (Deuteronomy 29:24). But he assures them that "you shall call [the blessing and the curse] to mind ... and shall return to Adonai your G-d." (Deuteronomy 30:1-2)Similarly, as the High Holy Days are upon us, we consider how we have strayed from the covenant during the past year. Beginning with S'lichot this weekend, we will recall what G-d has commanded about how we should handle our relationship with the Divine and our relationships with our family, friends and community.During our worship services we will be reminded that G-d welcomes our return - we have until the gates close at the end of N'ilah on Yom Kippur to prepare ourselves to try a little harder in the coming year.
