Rosh Hashanah

Tapuchim u’dvash*
A sweet treat we love to eat
To start a new year

The traditional Rosh Hashanah greeting is 8 syllables, making it a challenge to fit into a haiku. So I ask you to forgive me if I turn to prose for a moment to wish everyone shana tova u’metuka – a good and sweet year.

Rosh Hashanah

For Rosh Hashanah
A traditional greeting
“L’shana tovah”

Time for t’shuva
As we each seek forgiveness
For wrongs we have done

Days of reflection
Finding ways to be better
In the coming year

The Machzor tells us
We will know we’re forgiven
When transgressions end

We should say, “sorry”
But that alone, not enough
Actions must change, too

Rosh Hashanah

Tishrei already?
Then I guess it’s time to say:
“L’shana Tova”

Rosh Hashanah
